Since December 2013, Al Tireh WWTP (Wastewater Treatment Plant) treats 2000m³ of wastewater per day for al Tireh neighborhood, in Ramallah. The Municipality of Ramallah expressed its wish to receive technical assistance from Adour-Garonne water Agency (Toulouse, France) within its decentralized cooperation framework with the Municipality of Toulouse.
The process chosen for the WWTP is of activated sludge with membrane filtration for the reasons below:
Constriction of the site: 5 dunums were allocated for the plant, which includes the building (800m2) and the streets.
Quality of the treated water: the treated water is free from bacteria and suspended solids. The filtration threshold is inferior to the size of the bacteria (0.2 micron). The treated water can be directly used for irrigating several types of plants.
Cost of the treated water: the cost of a treated cubic meter of wastewater is equal to the cost in a classic treatment plant.
